Hargeisa(QRN)-A delegation from the Republic of Somaliland departed yesterday from Egal International airport in Hargeisa to take part in the Commonwealth summit in Kampala, Uganda.
The delegation which consists of three members of the Somaliland political parties, UDUB, KULMIYE and UCID received an invitation to attend the summit from the host nation of Uganda.
The members of Somaliland's delegation are as follows; from the incumbent party, UDUB, the deputy minister for Planning, Mudane Ahmed Hashi, the chairperson of UCID, Mudane Faisal Ali Warabe and Mudane Nur Salah Fagadhe, who is representing the KULMIYE party and is also the Somaliland representative in France.

This the first time that Somaliland has been invited to a Commonwealth summit in an observer basis. At the present time, the Republic of Somaliland isn't a member of the Commonwealth, but the republic was a former British protectorate until the 26th of June, 1960.
After its independence Somaliland formed a union with Italian Somalia in July 1960. The union was dissolved in 1991 upon the collapse of the Somali Democratic Republic. On the 18th of May, 1991, Somaliland reclaimed its sovereignty.
The summit which is being held in Uganda this year will have participants from 53 countries across the globe. The annual summit is formally opened by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, who is the head of the Commonwealth.
